How we research

Articles start from what is already ranking for the target query, then add primary and official sources the ranking pages miss. See how we research for the full sourcing method.

Fact status

Every factual claim is checked against its source and marked verified, conflicting, or unverified before publication.

State-law tables

State-law rules and numbers shown in tables and tools come from the primary statute text, read directly and cited by section number. Every value is re-checked by an independent second read before publishing; any disagreement between the first read and the recheck is logged and the value is set to unknown rather than guessed. See data/state_law_review.md for the current log of disputes found this way.

How we test tools

Every interactive calculator or tool on this site is checked against a written set of example calculations, each with its own cited source, before it is published.

Update cadence

We re-check every page at least once every 12 months, and right away when we learn that a state law or fee rule has changed.

Review and editing

Every draft goes through a pass that checks for AI-writing patterns before it is published. A person on the editorial team then reads and edits the draft before it goes live. The team, not one named individual, answers for what is published.

Corrections

See the corrections policy for how to report an error and how corrections are made.

Last reviewed

Every page on this site carries a date it was last reviewed, shown near the byline.
